5 experiences on Vitenparken this summer
World-class park facilities, soft ice cream from a local producer and playful exhibitions – visit Vitenparken this summer and have green holiday experiences.
1 – Eat soft serve ice cream Vitenparken Café
It stands there so nice and shiny in the café – our brand new soft ice cream machine. It barely makes a sound and out comes fantastic soft ice cream from Kulinaris! We serve it in the traditional way, but Haffi also has some exciting tricks up his sleeve with soft ice cream that looks like a clown, sprinkled with edible flowers or fried mealworm larvae. Vitenparken wants to be the preferred place in Ås and the surrounding area for a nice trip out, whether by bike, on foot, or by car if you're going a little further. Soft ice cream will be served no matter what. At Vitenparken Of course, we also have food and drinks in the café that you can enjoy with a view of the beautiful university park.
2 – Book a tour of the park
The university park is full of beautiful plants, magnificent trees, wildlife and monuments. Vitenparken can offer your group a pleasant walk with a tour of one of Norway's most beautiful parks.
In walks with our guides, we look at the history of Norway's first agricultural college, later a university, and the role this institution played in the modernization of Norway, from the 1850s to the present day. Today, the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is undergoing a major expansion process, and we will take a closer look at this development.
We will also look at monumental architecture and a beautiful neoclassical garden with many interesting trees and plantings. We can also have our own art walk in the newly restored Ur building, with many interesting modern artworks adapted to the building.
Before or after you have visited the park, you are of course welcome to eat or drink something at Vitenparken Kafé .
3 – Register your children for VitenSkolen summer weeks
As a knowledge and experience center, we take children seriously and make it fun for children and young people to visit us. This summer we have activities for children every week, with everything from experimental cooking, microscopy and chemical experiments to workshops to make your own analog and digital puppets. Our exhibitions are also a playground for children and young people, with interactive installations about food and sustainability. 4 – Become a roaring panther
Feel how much energy we use when depositing bottles with our brand new installation, the Roaring Panther. We are reopening the exhibition Food for Less and at the very end of the room you will find a brand new installation that we have created together with Infinitum. The Roaring Panther is a circular economy machine that lets you feel how much energy you use that is equivalent to depositing a bottle. The more you deposit, the more energy and CO2 you save. Recycling a plastic bottle several times is actually more energy-saving than recycling glass or aluminum. Come to Vitenparken and enter the Roaring Panther's hamster wheel, where a computer will calculate the energy you create and turn it into a roar generator into a climate roar. Wræææ!
The rest of the exhibition at Vitenparken is also about sustainability and how we will achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Read more about the exhibition Food for Less .
5 – Go on a journey of discovery with the Park app
Download the Parkappen in the App Store or Google Play and help Mette-Markus solve the holiday mystery. Look, taste, touch, hear and smell your way through the university park to complete the mission. The Parkappen is Vitenparken's own app with a map of the park and interactive posters that allow you to experience the beautiful university park in a new way. The trail about Mette-Markus and the holiday mystery winds from Vitenparken's main building, around Andedammen and up to our kitchen garden up by the greenhouses. Along the trail you can make big and small discoveries, either alone or with friends or your family. Inside VitenButikken, at Vitenparken Café, you can get magnifying glasses and other equipment if you really want to capture all the impressions of your trip and solve the holiday mystery in the best possible way.
