Livsvitenskapshistorie.no – a website about natural science research in Norway

The website www.livsvitenskapshistorie.no has now been launched – a new digital platform that makes Norwegian life science history accessible to a broad audience. It is based on the history of the research institutions at Campus Ås and shows developments in agriculture, veterinary medicine and other life sciences.

Large amounts of historical material – such as older research reports, books, archival documents, artifacts and images – have previously been inaccessible to the general public. Now this material is being collected and digitized to preserve knowledge and make it more accessible to future generations.

The website is developed by Vitenparken Campus Ås in close collaboration with the Friends of Science Park and the Norwegian Veterinary Historical Society.

The project has also received support from NMBU – the Norwegian University of Life Sciences – and the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy (NIBIO), and collaborates with several institutions on Campus Ås, such as the Norwegian Veterinary Institute and Nofima.

On the website you will find, among other things:

  • Digitized science history literature (so-called “gray literature”)
  • Artifact collections from the former Norwegian Agricultural Museum
  • Texts about disciplines, people and institutions at Campus Ås
  • Material from seminars, exhibitions and historical events

The history of science is communicated in a broad sense. The website is edited by subject editor Anders Heen and is updated regularly. We encourage everyone to contribute with input and questions – please use the contact form on the page.
