Week 26: Biotechnology – Sold out
All summer long you can take part in exciting activities with VitenSkolen at Vitenparken . We have created weekly programs covering everything from biotechnology, food, energy and boating. It is possible to sign up for the whole week or individual days. The activities are suitable for children from 7 to 13 years old. All days last from 10:00 to 15:00, (with the exception of the events with overnight stays), and include a simple lunch.
The event is sold out. There are still places available at Biotechnology Week in week 29.
Biotechnology Week is from Monday, June 25 to Friday, June 29, 2018, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM each day.
Join us and explore biotechnology and chemistry with VitenSkolen. How many different insects can we find out in the university park and what do they look like under a microscope? We will also explore what the organs in our body actually look like, and how bacteria behave. We will grow bacteria and find out whether antibacterial soap actually kills the bacteria on our hands or not.
Program
Monday
We spend a little of the day getting to know each other. Then we test what happens if we put our teeth in acid! At the same time, we will learn about osmosis, and start a mushroom experiment that will last the whole week. We will also bake buns both with and without yeast, to see how important yeast is in cooking.
Tuesday: Chemistry
Today we will look more at different chemical reactions. We will investigate osmosis and insects. We will also test whether red cabbage can be used as an acidity indicator (pH).
Wednesday: Biochemistry
Today we will start with photosynthesis experiments. Then there will be a field trip! We will go out into nature and take water and soil samples, look at insects and other wildlife. We will look at what we find out under a microscope. Can you spot what kind of tiny animals live in the water? This day will be spent outside, so dress for the weather!
Thursday: Anatomy
Today is anatomy day! Are you curious about what a heart looks like? Then you'll be joining us today! We'll be dissecting some animal organs, making blood pancakes, and checking our blood type.
Friday: Animals big and small
We're going on a trip to Gulli Farm to learn about animals. Back at Vitenparken we're finally going to look at the bacteria and fungi we grew on the first day. We're going to look at what shapes they have and whether they have outcompeted each other in the agar.
