Vitenparken

Autumn science weekend in the garden

Bli med på en lærerik helg for barn på vitensenteret Vitenparken – i vår skole- og kjøkkenhage, VitenEnga – der små hender får oppdage store sammenhenger!

In VitenEnga we become explorers in nature's own fairy tale, where everything and everyone is connected – from the smallest earthworm to the tallest sunflower. We see, taste, smell and laugh, and go on a journey of discovery in our kitchen and school garden through fun and exciting activities together with our garden facilitators and educators.

We become better acquainted with what grows here, with the life around us and down in the soil, and learn how we can take care of this interaction when we grow food.

Children get to experience the diversity of nature and understand that we humans are an important piece in this colorful puzzle. Here we spread small seeds of knowledge and love for nature – seeds that can sprout into a sustainable future.

Program Saturday and Sunday:
Most activities take place outdoors, so remember to dress yourself and your children for the weather.

  • Build an insect hotel!
Build a hotel where buzzing guests, little critters, and flapping friends can check in.
  • Seed packing
Discover how different plants make their seeds. In the seed packing shop, you can try your hand at finding plants with seeds, learning what seeds look like when they are ripe, and harvesting them – with both your hands and seed socks! Fold your very own seed packet and fill it with seeds from your garden.
  • The game corner
This corner requires precision and a little luck! Can you climb the branches in the ladder game? Roll the dice, and hope for rain. And avoid the aphid infestation at all costs. Also try Archenga, and see if you can maintain the stable ecosystem.
  • Art workshop
What can we create from what we find in the garden? Make a paintbrush, copy a flower, or stamp shapes with potatoes? Here you can just let your creativity run wild!
  • Psst! Yes, down here!
Let's turn our attention to the gang down below. Who are they, and what are they up to? We'll investigate that by listening to the sound waves they emit.
  • Edible garden
What can we eat from the garden right now? Harvest and taste the delicious seasonal produce!
