Every last weekend of the month, we invite children to a weekend filled with discovery, creativity and exploration. Each Science Weekend has its own theme, carefully designed by our skilled facilitators to create educational, interactive and fun experiences. The activities give children the opportunity to develop their interests in science, art and the environment, while the whole family gets a unique opportunity to explore together.
The theme for January's Science Weekend is art. Art is just as important for children's development as science - it awakens curiosity, creativity and the joy of creating! As a science center, we want to inspire children to explore their creative sides through play, learning and practical experiences. This weekend is about exploring, seeing the familiar with new eyes and letting their imagination run wild. Through the joy of creation and by using different senses, both children and adults get the opportunity to create and explore in an inspiring and slightly different environment, where art and science meet.

- A Wetland Chronicle – Video Installation

A Wetland Chronicle is a video installation by visual artist Helene Sommer. The work is based on a small wetland area consisting of two small ponds, a stream and a bog, in the immediate vicinity of the Jane exhibition pavilion located in the forest in Maridalen. The starting point is a poetic mapping of the ecology of the wetland underwater, using underwater cameras and hydrophones from February to November. In the auditorium, we fill the room with visual underwater recordings that are accompanied by a soundtrack with footage of underwater life in the wetland area, the movement of the underwater camera, as well as fragments of soundtracks from historical underwater films before underwater sound recording was possible. You will also be able to see an accompanying continuous scrolling text as a kind of stream of consciousness - a chronicle - that fabulates around everything from the frog perspective, military history, rumors, legends, mythologies, cameras, algae, optics, oystercatcher larvae, technology and surveillance. The work can be experienced between 10:00 and 15:00. 11:00 and 15:00 Saturday and Sunday in the auditorium on the 2nd floor. The public can enter and exit as they wish. Visual artist Helene Sommer has her education from the Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts. She works with video, text and installation and is concerned in her work with the way we experience and understand our surroundings and history. Helene Summer
Visit Helene Sommer's fascinating video installation, which explores a wetland area in Maridalen through underwater footage and sound from February to November. The soundtrack combines footage from nature, camera movements, and clips from historical underwater films. A scrolling text acts as a poetic chronicle, taking you through topics such as frog perspective, mythology, technology, and surveillance.
Experience the artwork on Saturday and Sunday between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The public is free to enter and exit.
