Post 4 – Dilemma about seeds

One of the rules is that the variety owner has the exclusive right to grow seeds of a variety for sale in a country. It is a form of food power. Fortunately, you don't always have to buy seeds to get seeds.

What do you think?

In the Minister of Agriculture's lunchbox was the “Norwegian Variety List”. It shows who has the rights to produce seeds from different plant varieties for sale. For personal use and for hobby cultivation, one is allowed to take one's own seeds and exchange them with others. But it has actually been proposed that it should be prohibited to exchange seeds and to take seeds from one's own plants for personal use. For a period in the early 2000s, it was even prohibited, until the Ministry of Agriculture and Food became aware of what an EU directive they had agreed to actually entailed.
