Summer with Vitenparken : Taste the science!
In weeks 26, 27, 30, 31, 32 and 33 there will be exciting summer activities with VitenSkolen at Vitenparken . We have created a weekly program covering everything from biology and food to technology and future visions. Here you can see the program and sign up for week 27 (29.06 - 03.07).
Taste the science!
This week the children will experience a world full of different flavors and fun ways to cook. We will spend a lot of time together in the outdoor kitchen and in our kitchen garden. Vitenparken is full of new technology and loves to communicate science. How can this be used in making delicious food that fills the stomach? All the food experiments are combined with learning in the field of life sciences and infection control is of course at the top of the list.
Monday: Experimenting with acid in the kitchen
The theme for Monday is acid. During the day we will go through many exciting acid activities. We will play with sulfuric acid, test acid indicators and experiment with citrus fruits. Do you know what happens if you have soda in your mouth for a long time? Or how the world's most common ingredient reacts when it meets stomach acid?
Tuesday: Yeast, yeast, yeast! What does yeast actually do?
On Tuesday it will be all about yeast, and what better way to learn about yeast than by baking lots of delicious yeast baked goods? We will look at how yeast works, what it is, and what happens if you don't use it. We will do lots of different experiments and of course eat our own baked goods.
Wednesday: A more sustainable everyday life
Did you know that green ingredients can be used for more than just dinner? On Wednesday we will explore how we can make our everyday lives more sustainable through what we eat. What exactly are green ingredients? What does sustainability mean? Together we will find the sustainable ingredients that can be easily implemented in everyday life. We will find fantastic, healthy alternatives that do not differ in taste from other, popular dishes. Maybe your child will come home with a new, healthy favorite dish?
Thursday: How does food last sooooo long?
Have you ever wondered why food sometimes has such a good shelf life and other times not? Through a series of experiments we will explore different ways to preserve food. The children will see a whole bunch of new and old-fashioned ways to preserve food so that it stays good for a long time. Rumor has it that the children will visit a creepy and old cellar… possible that this was used by the court right by the Royal Road?
Friday: Cuddle day!
Cuddly Day! Do we really need to say anything more? This Friday will be the definition of cuddly. Of course, it will also be culinary! We will cook a lot, and everything that is made during this day can be tasted. Some call this gluttony, we call it CUDDY DAY!
