Summer with Vitenparken Week 30: Surgery – play and learn!

All summer long there will be exciting summer activities with VitenSkolen at Vitenparken . We have created a weekly program covering everything from biology and food to technology and future visions. Here you can see the program and sign up for week 30 (20.07 - 24.07).

Operation – play and learn!

Join us for an exciting week, where we will explore, among other things, what makes things fly and how to make a boat self-propelled.

Through experimentation, observation and a little bit of fact, we will investigate the fundamental laws of nature in the universe. We will delve into conservation of energy, motion and that old Newton with his laws. But don't worry, with us you will hardly get a boring blackboard lesson.

Weekly program

Monday: Experiments with solar energy and rockets

The program on Monday will be two-part to make the most of the day. First, we will learn about solar energy by building cars that run on solar panels. This provides an incredible opportunity to see energy in action. Then we will do experiments with sunlight and magnifying glasses - maybe even start some small controlled fires. After lunch, we will explore rockets and catapults. We will learn about forces, potential energy, kinetic energy and pressure, and how this can make different objects fly.

Tuesday: Investigating cool experiments with magnetism

On Tuesday, the topic is magnetism. Through a series of experiments, we will gain an insight into what magnetism really is and how it works in practice. Among other things, we will make objects float and explore how physics allows things to move. There will be lots of fun and games. We can guarantee an exciting and educational day with lots of activity, without any blackboard teaching.

Wednesday: How do means of transport work?

On Wednesday we will play and learn with technology! We will create pipe systems that will use vacuum to transport capsules, a so-called “Hyperloop”. Who knows, maybe this will be the means of transport of the future? Later in the day we will have our very own tournament using robots. Of course there will be prizes!

Thursday: Code Day

On Thursday there will be a bunch of crazy coding experiments. We will work with and explore the world of codes. We will play with micro-bits, n-bot programming and use the programming tool scratch. We will also play with tiny robot bees - can we help the bees find the nectar?

Friday: build your own boat

On Friday, everyone will get to design and build their own dream boat. Later in the day, we will also test the boats in the Duck Pond! And to end the week, we will try to drop RAW eggs from a height of 2 meters without them breaking? Is it possible?

Practical information

  • Attendance is on Vitenparken .
  • The program begins at 9:00 a.m. each day, but it is possible to show up as early as 8:00 a.m. We are open until 3:30 p.m. every weekday.
  • Dress the children according to the weather.
  • There will be two lunch breaks each day, and everyone is asked to bring their own packed lunch (at approximately 11:00 and at approximately 14:00).
  • Please eat breakfast at home before you arrive.
  • We are following the authorities' advice and implementing good measures that take into account all infection control considerations. Further information about practical implementation will be provided at the start.
