The Gulf Stream is a saltwater current that carries warm water all the way from Mexico to Norway. Because of this current, warm air will blow over Norway. This gives us a moderate climate, and makes it possible for us to grow vegetables and the like. Without the Gulf Stream, Norway would be much colder, for example, Bodø is located at almost the same latitude as Nunavut in Canada, where it gets -40 degrees Celsius in winter. Environmental changes can cause the Gulf Stream to be destroyed. There are many theories about how this happens, including that cold water from our poles will cause the water to no longer be warm, and therefore the storm will be cut off. There are also theories that believe that our planet will solve the problem itself, by forming a new storm, for example. We use the chemical principles behind water, ice and salt to make slush from juice.
You can buy tickets on the website or in the café when you arrive.
