Food workshop

As part of the teaching program in plant heritage, the students will participate in a cooking workshop. The cooking workshop will take place at Vitenparken's MatLab and will be led by chef and gardener Håkon Mella. The cooking will be based on grains and vegetables from Norwegian plant heritage, and the course will end with a shared meal.

Current curriculum goals in the food workshop

  • discuss why a varied diet is important from a health and sustainability perspective (Science VG1)
  • select and evaluate raw materials and production methods based on ethical and sustainable criteria (VG1 RM)
  • explain ethical issues relevant to the restaurant and food industries (VG1 RM)
  • explore and present technology related to one's own educational program and evaluate it from a sustainability perspective (both VG1 RM and NA)

  • propose new products based on local natural resources and assess opportunities for establishing new businesses in accordance with current regulations, ethical and ecological principles
