About NOBA

The Norwegian BioArt Arena, NOBA, is a project by Vitenparken We are establishing ourselves as an arts hub and audience arena for cinema art . and is the first permanent arena for this type of art in Norway. NOBA combines art, research-based knowledge , critical thinking and new technology in a desire to stimulate to session consciousness around environment , biology and sustainability .

 What is bioart?

As a rena we want to explore what bioart is and can be . We defines bio art as an umbrella term for a broad range of art forms that work critically with biology , and concepts and relationships changing due to bioscientific research. Bioartists blend artistic and scientific processes, methods, approaches and tools , and artworks are often created between fieldwork, studio and laboratory. Through these processes and connections, bioart delivers social and political critique , questions the role of science in society, engages society in bioscientific innovations, stimulates dialogue and challenges our relationship to the world around us.

  Why art and science?

Today, many artists work and researchers with sustainability and environment seam backdrop . Human impact on the globe processes becomes ever more clearly , and previous contradictions seam nature and culture becomes erased out. In the context of environment and climate change we look at the interdisciplinary and critical the thinking in the dividing lines between life sciences , arts and environmental humanities , where bioart is located , as especially significant in further and sustainable development of culture and society . An expanded interaction between art and research stimulates both environments. Common denominators are curiosity, creative urge, cutting-edge expertise, criticism and communication. By creating an arena Where these environments can meet for mutual inspiration, exchange of expertise and mutual criticism, new connections and interactions can arise that promote each of the disciplines . For the public, this constitutes an innovative cultural offering. For school students, it represents another source of inspiration for future education and commitment to a sustainable society. For society's sustainability goals, it can accelerate the desired development.

What is BioArt?

As Arena we wish to explore what bioart is and can be. We define bioart as an umbrella term for a broad range of art forms that engage critically with biology , and concepts and rela ti on s in flux due to bioscientific research . Bio artists mix artistic and scientific processes , methods , approaches and tools , and artworks oar often created in between the field , the studio and the laboratory . Through theses processes and connections bioart delivers social and political critique , poses questions about the role of science in society , engages social actors in bioscience innovation , stimulates dialogue , and challenges our relationship with the living world that surrounds us.

Why art and science?

In our time many artists and researchers are working on issues relating to sustainability and the environment. The effect s of human activity on the processes of our globe are becoming increasingly apparent, and earlier oppositions between nature and culture are seen to be less clear-cut. In the context of environment al and climate change we consider cross-disciplinary and critical thinking in the intersections between bioscience, art and environmental humanities where bioart can be found, as particularly well poised to encourage sustainable cultural and societal development . An expanded interplay between art and research stimulates both fields. Common factors can be found in curiosity, creativity, specialized knowledge, criticism and dissemination. Through the creation of an arena where these environments can come together for mutual inspiration, exchange of knowledge and mutual critique, new connections and collaborations can arise that benefit both fields. For tea audience this constitutes a novel culture offering . For school pupils it represents a different source of inspiration for the future education and involvement in a sustainable society . For the sustainable development goals of our society it can further desirable developments.
