Vitenparken hiring insects – high school level

Vitenparken employing insects – are they disgusting or helpful?

Everyone eats food, but we rarely think about the journey our food has taken before we put it in our mouths. Along the way, from nothing to finished product, nature plays a big role, and insects make it both easier and more difficult to grow the raw materials we depend on.

Get to know insects that work for free to put healthy food on your table. Are they part of a sustainable future? We conduct an experiment with pests and beneficial insects, learn about interactions in nature and the research that is taking place on some specific challenges in food production.

We will touch on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, which are about eradicating hunger, and some of the challenges facing agriculture in the future. All this in the company of some small animals who work for free and without complaint.

SMARTCROP

In this teaching program, we briefly tell about the researchers at NIBIO who work with beneficial insects and how they are an important part of sustainable food production. The use of beneficial animals helps to minimize the use of chemical pesticides. Read more about the research project SMARTCROP .
