Taste of Knowledge – Grades 5-7
The senses are put to the test! What is taste? And which senses do you use when you eat? In this teaching program, students will have to put into words which senses you use to taste food.
Do sight and smell have anything to do with how things taste? Does everything taste the way you would first assume?
The students are given various taste samples by the science center educators, while they receive guidance on how to taste the food. For example, some taste samples should be examined without being able to smell what you are eating, while others may be explored blindfolded.
Students are challenged to describe and put into words their own experiences, and share them with others. They will also become familiar with hypotheses and how they use these in their taste experiences.
Competency goals
The program has been developed by educators based on the Faculty Renewal.
