Taste of Science – upper secondary level

What does chocolate really taste like? Like chocolate? Or is it a bit bitter, earthy, sweet, aromatic, maybe fruity? And what about mom's homemade pasta sauce? Why is it so good? Why do we like different things? What exactly is taste?
Every day we experience many different flavors, but we may not reflect much on this everyday activity.
In this educational offering, students will become better acquainted with the scientific subject of sensory science.
They are challenged to test their individual experiences related to food and put into words how their eating experiences are influenced by various factors.
They will also learn about some of the physiological processes that form part of the holistic experience we have around taste and food. We do this by talking and tasting our way through a menu of familiar foods in new ways.
Competency goals
The program has been developed by educators based on the Faculty Renewal.
