Mission Osdalen

PLAY HERE

Vitenparken has, together with Inspire to Action and with support from the Norwegian Environment Agency, further developed the educational game universe around Katja, predators and ecology with the game Mission Osdalen . The game is developed for children and young people between 9 and 13 years of age and is intended to give users insight into the predator debate in Norwegian society, shed light on myths and counter them with research-based knowledge, teach children and young people about the ecology and biology of predators, and give players an introduction to research on and management of nature by letting them perform typical research tasks through the game.
The purpose of the game is to contribute as a piece in the work to alleviate fear and conflict related to the return of predators in Norwegian nature by shattering myths and increasing the user's level of knowledge in an objective, yet engaging way.

In Mission Osdalen we meet again Katja, whom we first met in Svanhovd: a climate mystery . Now Katja has gone from being a research assistant to becoming a full member of a research team working with predators.
She is called out to Osdalen in the Inland region where a pair of wolves have settled in an area that was previously uninhabited by wolves. The level of conflict in the village is increasing between those who want the wolf to be welcome and those who want it gone.

In an attempt to understand how they will affect the humans who use the same areas as the animals, Katja is sent on a mission to survey the newly arrived wolf pair. The goal is to create a shared understanding of the wolves' biology and ecology for everyone living in the village.
Through the game, players can try their hand at collecting DNA material, putting tracking collars on wolves, and repairing the wildlife cameras that the researchers have placed in the forest.
