Vitenparken

Solution Pulse #1

Welcome to the first Løsningspulse of the year. Leading researchers will give short presentations about their own research, while you celebrate your salary with great colleagues. Yay!

Vitenparken , the Norwegian Association of Researchers and the Academicians at NMBU want to use this event to focus on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals for 2020 by inviting people who are researching/working on some of the local/global societal challenges the UN has identified. In informal surroundings, the enthusiasts now have the opportunity to share their experiences with an engaged audience, who are passionate about solving the world's problems!

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are the world's common work plan to eradicate poverty, combat inequality and stop climate change by 2030. In this regard, we are proud to present two outstanding women from the Department of Public Health Sciences, NMBU – who are each researching how they can “save the world” in their own way!

Sheri Bastien is an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health Sciences, NMBU, and her research focuses mainly on Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4, 5 and 6 (Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation). However, she recently participated in eXXpedition , a round-the-world sailing expedition for women collecting data on microplastics in the ocean, and addressing Goal 14 (Life Below Water). Sheri will share her experience from being aboard eXXpedition , and what she plans to do with the experience now that she is back on land.

Grete Patil is an associate professor and head of the Department of Public Health Sciences, NMBU, and has focused her research on the sustainability goal Good Health and Well-being . Health is a resource for individuals and for a society. Health and quality of life are something that one has and relates to from the beginning of life to the end – and health is a human right. In recent years, Grete Patil has researched what day care for people with dementia on farms can mean for the health and well-being of the users and for their relatives. This type of service involves a collaboration between a municipal health service and a self-employed person, a relationship that has also been studied in the project. At Løsningspils, Grete will share with us her experiences from this research.

The project is a collaboration between NMBU , Ageing and Health , NIBIO and Ruralis – Institute for Rural-Regional Research . More information about the project can be found here .

The results from the Dementia Care on the Farm project have also been turned into a photo exhibition “The Good Day” with brief results from the project. The exhibition is on display in Vitenparken at the Mezzanine until February 24. Read more about the exhibition here .
