Preliminary work: Graphic novel
The young research assistant Katja has traveled to a farm in the Inland to help farmer Jonas grow grain and vegetables from Nordic genetic resources, as a seed-borne viral disease has put a stop to all seed trade in Europe.
Go to Fremtidsfrø – a graphic novel .
The short story Future Seeds
During the stay, several challenges arise. In the short story, Katja must find out which vegetable and grain varieties from Norwegian plant heritage have the qualities that the farmer needs. Katja must also consider how we can prevent the loss of biodiversity in agriculture. In addition, Katja experiences which adaptations the farmer can make to ensure harvests during the consequences of climate change, such as extreme drought and torrential rain. Perhaps the seeds of the future are based on the genetic resources of the past?
