Digital short story for students about DNA analyses used in police investigations and the judiciary
Are you a middle or high school teacher? Help us test our new educational game about DNA analysis.
Vitenparken Campus Ås, in collaboration with the Biotechnology Council, has developed a computer game/digital narrative for students that deals with DNA analyses used in police investigations and the judiciary, and we are looking for school classes that can test our game. The test period is in April 2024.
Students play through an exciting story about the investigation of a murder. A police investigator, a forensic technician and a forensic geneticist, with their different roles, help solve the case together. The learning objectives in the game include: What is DNA, and what can it tell us? How is DNA analysis performed in the police? What ethical challenges are associated with the use of DNA in police investigations? And how does the law and society set the framework for the police's use of DNA.
The target group is approximately 9th grade of secondary school to VG1/VG2. The game is relevant for several competency goals, including within science and social studies.
We hope your class and you as a teacher have the opportunity to test the game and provide feedback. This feedback is very useful for the students' learning to be as good as possible in the final game. The goal is for the game to be free and available to all schools in Norway.
Those who want to test the game can either do this at Vitenparken together with other school programs here, or get a link sent to you by email with the game and a questionnaire and complete the testing in the classroom at school.
