Post 9: Monoculture and diversity
In the future, there will probably be more driving rain, heavy rain that hits hard and can damage leaves and cause ears of corn to bend. That was the scenario you should start from when you were designing a grain variety that could withstand that type of weather well. Then, for example, you can focus on varieties that have strong stems and can withstand that type of rain. But what if next year the problem is drought, and you have only focused on varieties that can withstand hard rain and wet soil? Or it is both hot and humid, and you have problems with diseases and pests that have not been problematic in Norway before?
Create a construction
There are two piles here, one with just needles, one with knitting needles and needles. There is also something to measure with. You will also need a stopwatch on your phone.
Do the following:
1-
- Set the timer for 2 minutes and press start.
- Start with the pile of bare sticks, and build as high as you can in the 2 minutes.
- Measure how high the structure is, and enter the height in the answer sheet below.
2-
- Set the timer for 2 minutes and press start.
- Use the pile of both needles and knitting needles, and build as high as you can in the 2 minutes.
- Measure how high the structure is, and enter the height in the answer sheet below.
