About the Plant Heritage Project
The project is a collaboration between Vitenparken Campus Ås and Norsk Bruksgenbank , funded by Sparebankstiftelsen DNB . The main target group is upper secondary school students in natural resource management courses, as well as leisure visitors.
Online resources and digital short stories
In the project, we have developed information material in the form of online resources – approximately 40 articles on the topics of inheritance and genetics, variety development, plant production, climate adaptation, biodiversity, etc. In addition, we have created the digital short story Seeds of the Future , in which research assistant Katja assists farmer Jonas with this year's crop where import crises , loss of biodiversity and climate change threaten the farm .
Educational trail in Parkappen
We have also developed an outdoor educational trail with about 30 different items that use the Parkappen , as well as a kit with various analog games. This educational program is distributable and can be sent out to schools if students cannot come to Vitenparken for infection control reasons.
Together with I2A, we have produced two films , a promo film about the Norwegian Gene Bank and an educational film about Norwegian plant heritage .
Interactive kaleidoscope
In the project we have also developed an installation – a several meter high food kaleidoscope that the public can enter and experience the colorful diversity of Norwegian heritage varieties of vegetables and grains. A food workshop has also been developed for the students who come to Vitenparken , together with our chef. Here the students will use the Norwegian grain and vegetable varieties. A separate graphic profile has been developed for the project as a whole.
