Course offerings for educators
Vitenparken offers courses for educators and teachers in science, mathematics, sustainability and technology. The courses are designed to provide professional enrichment and inspiration based on the new framework plan for kindergartens and the upcoming revised school curriculum.
Kindergarten teachers and elementary school teachers
Mathematics and programming
Vitenparken offers teacher training courses in mathematics/programming for preschool teachers and for teachers who teach in primary school (grades 1-4).
Within this teacher training course we use Bee-bot. This robot can be used in several ways, and is a good starting point for building basic understanding in mathematics, but also
as an introduction to simple programming with planning, sorting, counting and increased spatial understanding. Through training in use, good dialogue and conceptual understanding can be facilitated.
Vitenparken also rents out sets of 6 Bee-bots with a charging station, and accompanying tips for tasks, challenges and games that can be used in kindergarten or at school to those who wish.
Course duration is: 3.5 hours
Sustainability and scientific exploration
Starting in March 2018, it will be possible for kindergarten teachers to order a course based on the new framework plan and how to use the concepts of sustainability and science exploration in kindergarten.
The curiosity method in elementary school
The Science Park's educators are also approved by the Research Council's own initiative, Nysgjerrigper, and can hold courses in the Nysgjerrigper method. The Science Park's educators are familiar with the project through several years of experience from jury participation and other collaborations with Nysgjerrigper.
Through this course, teachers will receive tips, advice and ideas on how to facilitate good projects where students carry out their own research project.
Vitenparken will be able to distribute useful material that can be used in schools and in participation in the Curious Per Contest, in addition to being able to guide teachers who want to follow the Curious Per method and assist students in participating in the competition.
Course duration is: 4 hours
Suitable for: Elementary school teachers
Programming in primary and secondary schools
The science centers have recently been appointed as an important resource in assisting schools in raising their competence in programming. Vitenparken offers courses where several different programming languages can be used. In particular, we see that the ARM-based system – BBC micro:bit (a microcontroller) is a fun and engaging intro to the world of computer science and programming. It is easy to use in school, and can also be used well for advanced students and teachers.
Here, registered teachers also have the opportunity to purchase/order a set of 10 microcontrollers that can be taken back to school for further work.
Course duration: approximately 4 hours
Suitable for: Elementary and middle school teachers
Price: NOK 800 per person // Class set of 10 mikro:bit controllers: NOK 3000
NB: For the course to run, there must be at least 10 registered people in total.
