All of our educational offerings fall under science themes with a special emphasis on food, technology and sustainability.

We are proud to offer free school visits for high schools across the country, and we tailor each visit to the school's wishes.

In addition to the teaching program, you can also book a presentation about the study options at NMBU from a student ambassador, as well as a tour of the NMBU campus and/or the veterinary building.

Green coding with BBC Micro:Bit:

How can coding and today's mobile technology be used to assist plant growth?

In this teaching program, students will explore programming with microbits, and look at how they can use this in plant research.

Code Art (Algorithmic Art through Block Programming or Python)

KodeKunst is a nationwide initiative where participants produce algorithmic art using programmable sand printers from Sisyphus Industries. Through block programming or python, participants are given the opportunity to control the small metal ball that moves through the sand. The program is excellent for children from middle school up to high school, and can be adapted to the participants' prior knowledge through both thematic and programming language.

The Climate Game: a practical teaching program about climate and renewable energy

The Climate Game is a practical teaching program about climate and renewable energy. The case in the Climate Game is building a wind turbine park in Norway. The students work interdisciplinary with topics such as economics, technology, politics and journalism. They are challenged to take a position on various issues and see climate in a holistic perspective.

Micro:bit orienteering race on NMBU campus

We're holding an orienteering race on Norway's most beautiful university campus! But instead of posters with physical stamps, we're using micro:bits that send digital stamps to a micro:bit receiver. And the micro:bit receiver, we're going to program it ourselves first!

Meltdown: What physical principles drive the warming of the Earth?

How do you use these principles in society? In this teaching program, students are given a challenge to solve before time runs out! Knowledge of energy, chemistry and the environment is put to the test. Which of the groups solves their challenge in the best way?

Vitenparken employs insects

Are they nasty or helpful? Get to know insects that work for free to put healthy food on your table. Are they part of a sustainable future? We conduct an experiment with pests and beneficial insects, learn about interactions in nature and the research that is taking place on some specific challenges in food production.

The Crime Mystery

How can knowledge of biotechnology help solve a crime mystery? A researcher at NMBU has been found murdered on Campus. We need your help to find the murderer. The students must thoroughly investigate and analyze several clues in the case. Among other things, they must compare DNA from hair with DNA from four suspects who were observed at the scene around the time of the murder. The project is carried out in the laboratory at NMBU.

NMBU helps shape the future of food production through both basic and applied research. This teaching program is based on our familiar domestic animals, the cow and/or horse.

CRISPR

We take a deep dive into the world of our genes. Editing the genetic material of organisms we interact with has been done by humans since our days as hunters and gatherers. But it is only recently that the truly revolutionary scientific advances have occurred. In today's biotechnology, CRISPR is the new hot thing. It is said to be the biggest breakthrough since the discovery of DNA. But what is it exactly, and why is it so revolutionary compared to previous genetic manipulations?

Imagine something as mundane as eating and tasting – a daily activity that all humans have in common. But through this educational offering, students will take a closer look at this everyday activity. Students will become better acquainted with the scientific subject of sensory science.

Cocoa Crisis! a teaching program about sustainability and food security

Let us take you on a fictional, but not unimaginable future scenario: the store shelves are almost empty of chocolate. No KvikkLunsj for the ski trip, no chocolate cake for the birthday. Why? There is a crisis in the chocolate industry; cocoa bean production worldwide is threatened by extreme weather and poor social conditions. How are we going to achieve sustainable agriculture in a world characterized by climate change and unsustainable social conditions for farmers? Join us for an interdisciplinary, different and engaging teaching program in five parts, developed for nature use vg1. Students play through a digital short story, solve tasks in their local environment with our app trail, and practice taking a position on complex and current academic claims.
