Welcome to the largest seminar on Sustainable Urban Development and Cities, hosted by the NMBU Sustainability Arena GreenSmart.
As a leading university committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, NMBU houses the Sustainability Hub and five Sustainability Arenas, each focusing on a specific area to enhance NMBU’s collaborative efforts for a sustainable future.
GreenSmart is dedicated to developing and coordinating projects across all faculties at NMBU to advance sustainable urban development. By collaborating with external partners and internal faculties, GreenSmart creates interdisciplinary programs, fosters innovation, and supports research and education aimed at shaping the cities of tomorrow.
The GreenSmart initiative is supported by Pådriv, NMBU Learning Center, and Vitenparken.
The seminar program is organized into five topics:
- 10:15 Doors Open and Mingling
- 11:00 – 11:15 Welcome
- 11:15 – 12:15 Circular Cities & Sustainable Economics
- 12:15 – 12:50 Just Cities for All
- 12:50 – 13:35 From Waste to Resource
- 14:05 – 14:25 Nutrient Recycling and Urban Agriculture
- 14:40 – 15:00 Creating Change for Sustainable Cities
Each session will feature 2–3 speakers. Please see the list of speakers via the link here, noting that the schedule is subject to change.
There will be two 15-minute breaks, and a light food service will be provided. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions or allergies when registering.

Supported by Pådriv, the NMBU Learning Center, and Vitenparken, GreenSmart acts as a hub for expertise and resources in areas such as land and resource management, energy efficiency, ecological systems, circular economy, social justice, urban agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
Through partnerships and initiatives, both domestically and internationally, GreenSmart aims to establish meaningful platforms like seminar series and workshops to connect people with projects and inspire actionable solutions. The arena continuously seeks passionate individuals and organizations to contribute to creating sustainable, green, and innovative cities.
Vitenparken and GreenSmart
As a science center dedicated to sustainability and food systems, Vitenparken collaborates closely with the GreenSmart Arena. This partnership includes leading dissemination and communication efforts, as well as engaging students in hands-on learning through Vitenparken’s school garden initiatives. Together, they work to inspire and educate the next generation about sustainability and sustainable urban practices.
